RI FILM FESTIVAL Selects Documentary on Fed Hill Italians for screening
PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island,(RUSHPRNEWS), August 2, 2007 - The documentary film Italian Americans and Federal Hill has been selected by the Rhode Island International Film Festival for screening at the Columbus Theater in Providence on the big screen at 6pm on Saturday, Aug 11th. There will be one showing only.
This feature film by Jonathan Raben received a four star rating from Michael Janusonis of the Providence Journal, a five star rating from Frances Syner of the Federal Hill Gazette, a “thumbs up” from the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF News), was reviewed as far away as the Newsitalia Press in Italy, reported on Radiotelevisione Italiana (Italy's National Broadcaster) and heralded by the Annotico Report which is read by Italians worldwide.
This film is the first full length feature film made entirely in Rhode Island with all Rhode Island people to succeed commercially. DVD’s are available in a number of stores throughout Rhode Island (including Borders and Barnes & Noble) and there is interest developing from others across the United States and Italy.
Featuring personalities from many walks of life related to the Federal Hill neighborhood, the film relates the story, history, traditions, struggles and successes of Rhode Island’s Italian American community. This story shows how they succeeded in becoming part of the social fabric of Rhode Island, and is a shining example to future peoples immigrating to the United States.
The independently made film does not avoid controversy as it tackles discrimination and stereotyping head on. The soundtrack features live recordings of traditional Italian music.
