To Open in New York October 24By Mary Montserrat-Howlett
NEW YORK(RUSHPRNEWS)09/22/2008--In a time where social change stirred New York City’s underground scene, young artists were acting out against the right-wing, conformist turn that took over America in the early 1980’s. Director Christina Clausen brings us the riveting and intimate portrait of world-renowned artist, Keith Haring in the 82-minute, must-see documentary: "The Universe of Keith Haring".
The film features interviews and rare archival footage with Fab 5 Freddy, Yoko Ono, Andy Warhol, Madonna, Grace Jones and David LaChapelle among many.
Haring is commemorated as the insurgent artist who shocked the world by visually provoking and attacking the elitism that dominated the contemporary art world for so many decades. Defining himself on the empty black panels of New York City’s subways, his graffiti-like compositions combined explicit images with playful situations and overt sexuality with cartoon innocence. Uninhibited, unassuming, his art was accessible to the everyday public and quickly gained respect and recognition worldwide.
The film’s theme song is composed by famed DJ and record producer, Junior Vasquez, with a stellar original soundtrack put together by Angelo Talocci, that pays homage to the golden age of hip hop music. The "Universe of Keith Haring" is an Arthouse Films Production, produced by Paolo Bruno and Eric Ellena. The honest and vivid portrayl of Keith Haring will be sure to grasp audiences everywhere.
The film will open at Cinema Village in New York City October 24.
