Composer in Alaska hopes to get the world dancing on New Year's Eve

ALASKA(RUSHPRNEWS)19/11/08- Alaskan musician George Wallace wants the world to know that there's more to Alaska than popular governor Sarah Palin and caribou-politics. He hopes his new song for New Year's Eve 2008-2009 will result in a global embrace of a fresh New Year's anthem. Wallace is a 50-year-old studio musician who spent a few years busking in Japan. Now back in the USA and married to his high school sweetheart, he worked with a lyricist in another city over a six-month period last year to come with a collaboration that culminated with a rousing anthem of a song titled "New Year Dance."

"What we're really trying to do is put out a cool song with a cool message that somehow makes the world a more peaceful place to live,"Wallace told RushPRnews.

The goal was to create an international celebration song to be played up to and during the New Year, he said. The song includes "call outs" of "Happy New Year" in eight different languages: Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, French, Russian, Norwegian, Hebrew and English.

"We created the song and have made it available online for free as a gift to the world, just for fun, and to celebrate the New Year worldwide with a global anthem," he says.

After being barraged by Christmas music during the holiday season, there is kind of a lull in celebratory music in the week leading up to New Year's, Wallace says. With the exception of the tradition of "Auld Lang Syne" being played at midnight of January 1, there isn't much New Year's-specific music out there, he adds.

After reading the lyrics via email, Wallace went to work in his home studio in Juneau, Alaska and came up with the arrangement as the mew global song began to take shape. After sketching up a musical background and reworking the lyrics a little bit, Wallace mixed his own voice with 14-year-old Taylor Vidic's vocals.

"It was really cool because I knew I was the ... first person to sing it," the Taylor says."It's just a really fun, upbeat happy song."

"I had the easy part, just writing the words," the Boston-born lyricist says. "George did all the heavy lifting and turned a simple happy-feel lyric into a resounding choral song."

Wallace says he hopes the song will proliferate through the Internet and become a tune associated annually with the holiday, around the world. "It's a global song, a global anthem," Wallace says.
