WASHINGTON (RushPRnews) 01/28/09-- After RushPRnews published a news article by this reporter on January 24, about Dee Dee Myers calling him "the most famous living person in the world ever" on the Larry King television show on CNN, Myers herself wrote an article on Vanity Fair magazine in New York a few days later that was published online on January 27, repeating basically the same things that RushPRnews said in its earlier story.
So far, so good. However, the comments that followed Myers' article in Vanity Fair were fast and furious, and most of them were angry and right winged. Here's a brief summary of the kinds of things that were said. Note: NSFW.
Let's begin with the good stuff.
Among the many negative comments that Myer's article in Vanity Fair engendered on the magazine's website, there was one positive note, and the positive comments were few and far between. Of over 100 comments posted by anonymous bloggers, just five perhaps were positive. Let's begin with the positive comment first.
"I believe that it is very possible that Barack Obama is the most famous living person ever," wrote the commentter. "But what amazes me most is the negative tone of most of the comments here on the magazine's website. What is the matter with all of the posters who are so full of venom and hatred? I am very proud that the United States has elected such a man to be president, and I will remain of this opinion as long as Obama deserves it -- so far so good."

But then the criticism and rightwing bile set in. Read the following comments with concern, major concern. America remains a very sick country, apparently, judging from these comments.
-- "This has to be the dumbest article about Obama yet. Myers is a
looney. He has done nothing. He is a politician. I am sick of this crap. Iwish him good health so I can help beat him in 2012!"
-- "Come on, this is a pretty mindless article. So ridiculous one tends to wonder if it was planted by someone on the conservative right just to give even more fuel to the belief (fact) that the liberal media not only blindly supports Obama but is blindly in love with him.
Beware not the man, but the people who blindly follow the man anywhere. Just ask someone who lived in Germany in the 1930's, if they can live to tell about it."
-- "Ever heard of a guy named Elvis?"
-- "What else would you expect from a liberal like Dee Dee Myers.
Gee, another Lewinski but this time from Dee Dee. All rise and Hail the Lord God Obama. You people are sick, really really sick."
-- "Are you kidding me? Jesus was the most famous living person ever.
So famous in fact that we built the calendar around his birth and death (and resurrection). Obama is a flash in the pan...."
-- "Well just wait until we have Obama's birthday and when he rises from the dead some day we can all sing songs to honor him and pray to him and adore him and love him and worship him. You see, to Democrats Obama is God Almighty."
-- "All this blind idolatry for Obama is about as intellectual as a 10 year old girl screaming her head off at a boy band concert."
-- "I hope former Clinton flacker Dee Dee Myers and the rest of her mainstream media chums keep doting over and building up Obama. Can you imagine the fall this guy is gonna have when he and his policies all prove to be nothing but empty talk?"
-- "This is silly. I am an American. I live in the Philippines and travel a lot. I can assure you that much, perhaps most, of the world has no idea who Barack Obama is. This nonsense has to with the American cult of Obama. It's kind of frightening and quite stupid.
What, the guy's been President for a week? So who is, or was, the most famous person in the world? George W. Bush is the obvious answer. But that annoys you liberals, doesn't it?"
-- "Is this a joke or what? Let me see who wrote this article. Oh, Dee Dee Myers (Miss Liberal) from the Clinton administration of the 90's! That would explain it!!Maybe she had one too many, I don't know!
How can you compare a nobody like Obama (who gives a good speech) to people like Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher, Nelson Mandela and literally dozens of others, who have actually done something useful in this world!! You need to take your head out of the sand, Miss Myers.
Or stop smoking that funny stuff, because you are definitely in another world."
-- "If indeed Obama is the most famous person who has ever lived, it only proves that the human race has collectively lost its mind.
Remember, this is a man who to date has never actually done anything!
He's smart enough to be trying to lower expectations, because there's a real danger that the swooning multitudes will go berserk with disappointment and frustration when Obama turns out to be merely human. Publications like Vaniety Fair [and RushPRnews] don't help by adding to the mindless hype."
-- "Oh, give me a break from your idolatry of this man. Like a previous commenter stated, he has done nothing of substance yet. My vote is for a person who has and always should be the most famous:
Jesus."
-- "Dee Dee, you must be one of the stupidest people in the history of the world; what flavor of Kool-aid have you been drinking? What would your old boss say?"
-- "Then the media has succeeded. Why this is even a story is an example of what is wrong with not only our politics but our society.
No matter how famous a non-liberal was there is no chance in hell that there would be a cover story about how wonderful that non-liberal was or how famous they were. And we continue the revolving door of liberal politicians/political staffers going from campaigns to cover stories in the media and we get to continue pretending that there is nothing unusual about this. Liberals write stories about a liberal politician and then later go back to work for the same politicians. And we wonder how we got a liberal media?"
-- "Obama's ego driven, and you just keep feeding it."
-- "Obama ran for the highest office in the land with the shortest list of accomplishments in history. Obama's medical records have never been released. Amazing the most famous person ever, yet we know the least about. We know nothing about his academic record at Columbia or Harvard except that which he wants us to know, that he was editor of the Harvard Law Review. Why can't we see the academic record that earned him that spot?"
-- "Enough with the slobberfest over that Empty Suit President already. The guy is all sizzle and no steak. The comment that we all know so much about him is crazy. The Empty Suit wrote two books but had no legislation to call his own for his 4 years in the Senate. The wily Prez won't even release his university grades. When the president asks people to applause for goofy proposal of his (swearing in of the Tres Sec) then it just shows that King Hussein should have remained a community organizer in Chicago. The voters were duped into voting for this windbag. BHO isn't to blame, he ran the most successful PR blitz and became President. But now we have to read crap like Myer's article here [and the RushPRnews article earlier] and see how the media will apologize for Alfred E. Obama as he annoints us with his mystical powers. Where do I go to puke? Four years of the Empty Suit begin now."
What;s your take on all this, dear Reader? Is America coming or going?
And why are some people so insanely and irrationally angry at Mr.
Obama?
