Susan Cowsill Featured Showcase at Memphis International Folk Alliance

NEW ORLEANS, LA, (RUSHPRNEWS) February 9, 2009---The Susan Cowsill Band will lead an invasion of Louisiana Music at the 2009 International Folk Alliance Conference, held February 18-22, at the Marriott Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee. Kim Carson will join Cowsill, Andrew Duhon, Tyree Neal, and Dirtfoot at the Louisiana Music Special in the Memphis Music Tent on Saturday. It promises to be a huge night. Kathy Mattea opens the tent with a 6:00 pm feature show “In the Round” with Nashville favorites Jon Venzer and Rivers Rutherford.

The popular Folk Alliance conference also features Rosalie Sorrels, John Sebastian, Rodney Crowell, Bela Fleck, Matt Morris, Charlie Louvin, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Albert Lee, Ian McLagan, The Ebony Hillbillies, John Boutee, Futureman, Randall Brablett, Lucy Wainwright Roche, Luke Ducet, and Peter Holsapple & Chris Stamey among many others.

New Orleans’ own Susan Cowsill will make an additional showcase appearance at the Folk and Roll Showcase Room #1916 on Friday, February 20. Laura Thomas of Combo Plate Booking and Marie Arsenault of Roughneck Booking will be in attendance. The entire schedule can be found at Folk and Roll, sponsored by a collective of independent booking agents.

Susan Cowsill made her initial mark on popular culture at the tender age of eight with The Cowsills, the 60s family pop group that not only scored Top Ten singles The Rain the Park and Other Things, Hair and We Can Fly but also served as the real-life inspiration for TV's fictional Partridge Family. During Susan’s decade with New Orleans’ roots-pop supergroup The Continental Drifters, she won the hearts of discerning listeners with her impassioned vocals and personally-charged songwriting, gracing three widely-acclaimed albums and a decade’s worth of riveting performances. Cowsill's vocal talents have beautifully supported recordings from artists as diverse as Dwight Twilley, Redd Kross, The Smithereens, Giant Sand, Nanci Griffith, Carlene Carter and Jules Shear. The Bangles and Hootie and the Blowfish have covered Cowsill’s compositions.

Susan’s stunning original composition, Just Believe It, was released in the United States while Cowsill was a virtual refugee, along with hundreds of thousands of fellow citizens of New Orleans, Louisiana. Rave reviews were all but drowned in the media fallout from Katrina.

Just Believe It has been remastered and remixed and scheduled for release in September 2009 on the Threadheads Label.

Susan Cowsill is finishing studio work on a new album of original compositions, tentatively titled Lighthouse and scheduled for a North American release in late spring.
