NEW YORK (RPRN/Hollywood Today) 3/19/09 – One day after suffering a head injury on a Canadian ski slope, actress Natasha Richardson died Wednesday night at New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital, surrounded by her family, including husband Liam Neeson and mother Vanessa Redgrave.
“Liam Neeson, his sons, and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha,” Neeson’s publicist said in a statement. “They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time.”
According to the Associated Press, Richardson, 45, fell during a private lesson on a beginner’s ski slope at Quebec’s Mont Tremblant resort Tuesday and was hospitalized in Montreal before being transferred to Lenox Hill that same day.

Though the official cause of death has not been announced, celebrity Web site TMZ claimed Tuesday the injuries suffered during the accident had left Richardson brain dead. The actress, who was actively involved in a number of AIDS charities, had two sons with Neeson, Micheál and Daniel, who survived her.
Born in London, Richardson began her career in theater, before moving onto television and film. Her big-screen debut came in 1986, playing “Frankenstein” author Mary Shelley in “Gothic.” Her most recent movie was 2008’s “Wild Child,” which starred Emma Roberts and was released primarily in Western Europe and Australia.
Other notable roles included doctor to a feral child portrayed by Jodie Foster in 1994’s “Nell” (which also featured Neeson), the hapless mother in the 1998 remake of Disney comedy “The Parent Trap” opposite Lindsay Lohan and a socialite in the 2002 Jennifer Lopez vehicle “Maid in Manhattan.”
