NFL Players Promote Physical Education Bill on Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON (RPRN) 03/20/09-This week, members of the National Football League (NFL) convened on Capitol Hill to promote the Fitness Integrated with Teaching (FIT) Kids Act, which seeks to enhance schools’ physical education offerings, the Associated Press reports. Introduced in both the House and Senate in 2007, the FIT Kids Act would amend the No Child Left Behind Act to require individual schools, districts and states to evaluate and report student performance against physical education requirements.

In addition, the bill would mandate that schools provide nutrition education to all students and increase the time allotted for physical education and activity during the school day. As part of the visit, NFL players DeAngelo Hall, Chris Horton and Fred Smoot of the Washington Redskins and Brendon Ayanbadejo of the Baltimore Ravens will lead a group of children in fitness activities at the Capitol
