HOLLYWOOD (RPRN/Hollywood Today) 7/27/2009--The Guinea Pigs from G-Force and their producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean, National Treasure) gobbled up Harry Potter and $32.2 over the weekend. Potter’s Half-Blood Prince was only in its second week of regency and was expected to the hold the crown for several weeks.
Still, Potter conjured up $30M and has earned $222M so far.
The Ugly Truth turned out well with a $27M bow for Katherine Heigl (see related interview) as she re-creates what we know of chick flick comedies with a fresh look, as she did with Knocked Up.
The Orphan (see related interview) didn’t really find a home in its first week with a middling $13M coming out, not embarrassing but more was expected from the Warner Bros. horror flick in the mid-summer, when kids flock to these.
