PHILADELPHIA (RPRN) 8/14/2009– All the rumors and all the speculations concerning Mike Vick’s future in the NFL can now be put to rest. Vick is no longer jobless. The former Atlanta Falcons quarterback has signed a two-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced on July 27, that the troubled quarterback would be reinstated into the league. Up until now, the majority of teams shied away from showing too much interest into the former No. 1 pick in 2001.
The Eagles will hold a news conference on Friday morning to announce his signing. Make no mistake, the media circus surrounding the 29-year-old quarterback, is far from over, but Vick finally has a team to help turn his fortune around.
He can immediately take snaps in preseason practices, workouts and meetings, and is eligible to take part in the final two preseason games.
Once the season begins, Vick can participate in all team activities except games, and Goodell said he would consider the disgraced quarterback for full reinstatement by Week 6 of the NFL season (Oct. 18-19) at the latest.
The signing took many owners and coaches by surprise. Vick has not played in the NFL since 2006, serving 23 months of jail time on a dog fighting conviction.
The Falcons will host the Eagles in a Sunday game on Dec. 6, at the end of the regular season.
Vick is going to be on 60 Minutes Sunday August 16, 2009 at 7:00 P.M
