Mischa Barton’s ‘The Beautiful Life’ Canceled

Apparently, the third time won’t be the charm for Mischa Barton comeback vehicle “The Beautiful Life: TBL,” which The CW canceled Friday after only two airings. According to the network, dismally low ratings were the reason for shelving the teen-friendly drama, which focused primarily on the lives of teenage models living together in Manhattan. Four unaired episodes are set to be pre-empted by other programming. Barton, 23, played Sonja Stone, a 20-something model trying to get her career back on track after a 6-month hiatus, during which she secretly had a child. Controversy surrounded the production after Barton was involuntarily committed shortly before filming was to begin in July.

At the time, the network claimed shooting was pushed forward due to set-building difficulties and not to accommodate the “O.C.” actress. Barton was released from Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center nearly two weeks later, with the London native eventually telling “Time Out New York” she had a nervous breakdown due to anxiety and pain from botched dental surgery. “The Beautiful Life” also featured Sara Paxton, 21, in her first small-screen starring role since the cancellation of children’s series “Darcy’s Wild Life” in 2006. She portrayed Raina Marinelli, an uncharacteristically kind 17-year-old model. Though she has guest-starred on a variety of television series over the past decade, Paxton is best known for her roles on the big screen, including featured parts in “Aquamarine” and “The Last House on the Left.” The cast of “The Beautiful Life” also included “High School Musical” alum Corbin Bleu as one of the young professionals and prominent real-life model Elle Macpherson as a modeling agent. Ashton Kutcher of “That ‘70s Show” and “Punk’d” produced the drama.
