HOLLYWOOD, CA (RPRN) 03/04/10 — The Alex awards, named after pioneering fashion designer Alexander McQueen who died February 11, will be awarded next week after the Academy Awards broadcast.
The prizes will honor the finest dresses worn by Oscar nominees in three categories: the 'Gold', for best rendition of classic styles; the 'platinum' for superior innovation in modern design, and the 'Green', for garments which make the best use of natural fibers and originate in a Fair Trade workshop in the developing world. The three prizes are of equal stature.

There will be no statuettes awarded; instead, donations in each winner's honor will be made to Oxfam, to aid victims of the recent earthquake in Chile. Winners will be announced on March 9, the Tuesday after the Academy Awards broadcast.
