Newport, Rhode Island (RPRN) 09/06/10 — The Newport Secret Garden Fall Tours have announced that tickets for its September 2010 tours showcasing some of the city’s most prestigious private estates are now available. Visitors get a rare glimpse inside the walls and fences of these famous Newport properties with all proceeds to benefit local students in the form of grants for arts and music education.
While tightening school budgets and economic woes have left the arts, particularly music education, largely unfunded. Events like the Newport Secret Garden Tours help preserve those programs and can help change a student’s life.
Since 1984 when first organized by Myra Duvally, the Secret Garden Tours have raised more than $1.25 million for local students who normally might not have been able to pursue their artistic or musical dreams.
"Arts are usually the first thing targeted when money gets tight,” said Myra Duvally during an interview. “All funds donated through the Newport Secret Garden Tours go to benefit visual arts, dance, theater and music.”
The tours are self-guided creating a unique experience for each tourist while providing flexibility for those with busy schedules. The event begins Friday, September 10th and ends Sunday September 12th, from 10am – 5pm each day, rain or shine. Additionally, tickets purchased in advance for the event can be redeemed at anytime throughout the weekend. Tickets are available for $20.00 in advance or $25.00 at the event.
