MONTREAL (RPRN) 12/18/10 — The holidays are fast approaching and so is my imminent weight gain. I know, I know, I should really exercise some sort of will power and control but with all the chocolate Santa’s and Merlot floating around, how can a girl resist? How does one keep super strict healthy eating habits over the holidays?
I have often heard my girlfriends say (and myself I might add) that come January, they will go on a big diet and exercise regimen. This is just a way to convince ourselves that it’s ok to pig out when in reality, you just feel more depressed because your skinny jeans are too tight come New Years. I think the key is not to deprive yourself but to indulge a little. If we stick to eating healthy meals, then we can enjoy a glass (or three) of wine and a little chocolate for dessert. There are a number of ways we can keep healthy eating habits during the holidays. Starting with breakfast, you can have a little organic yogurt, granola, fruit, etc…Lunch can be a nice salad with some protein and if you can limit yourself to just a little bit of the delicious gravy with the turkey, then all these little actions will make a difference.
Being active is also key. My kids are full of energy so I know they will need lots of stimulation. And, although I would much prefer to be singing jingle bells while chasing them down the beach, I am just going to have to suck it up and brave the cold and take them skating, tobogganing and all the other fun stuff I loved when I was little. Luckily I know once I am out there it’s a lot of fun (really!). And, there are rewards….tired little cuties that hit the sack early and quiet time for mom and dad to enjoy those little indulgences!
