The book contains 185 crisp black and white photo illustrations, direct and simple explanations, and easy to follow directions for learning the correct use of hand and power tools, doing repairs and avoiding poor quality consumer goods and tools.

Lawrence Pierce is a retired Vancouver, BC litigation lawyer who spent the last 55 years fixing things. He learned the basics from his father, who grew up during the 1930’s in York, Nebraska, where he was raised by his grand-father, another do-it-yourselfer.

During his childhood in Kansas City, Missouri, and high school years in Richardson, Texas he continued to learn about machinery, by repairing several motorcycles, and English sports cars, and later as a journeyman mechanic in San Francisco, California, and in Whitehorse, Yukon. He rounded out his skills renovating houses and farming in Canada, during the 1970’s and presently. He lives on Hornby Island BC.
