SAN FRANCISCO (RPRN) 06/14/12 — Due to a fire near BART tracks in West Oakland that started early this morning, BART service between Oakland and San Francisco was suspended for most of the day today. BART service continued throughout the East Bay and between San Francisco / Peninsula stations.
Reports indicated that at approximately 2:15 am, a fire broke out at senior housing construction site near West Oakland Station. The fire spread to BART property and damaged track insulators, communications cables, electrical cables and other trackside equipment.
BART crews worked as quickly as they could to safely repair the damage. Transbay service was restored around 3:45 pm.
Extra hour of direct service
BART will run an extra hour of direct service on the Fremont - Daly City Line tonight.
