SHPE CEO Pilar Montoya is Honored for Advancing STEM Awareness, Education and Leadership Development

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Inc (SHPE) Chief Executive Officer, Pilar Montoya, has been nationally recognized by US STEMconnector™, “100 Women Leaders in STEM,” for her efforts to increase STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) awareness, access, support and leadership development among the Hispanic community. In a recent special reception at the US News STEM Solutions Summit in Dallas, Texas, Ms. Montoya, along with 99 other phenomenal women, was honored and acknowledged for their commitment to advance the cause of encouraging more girls and young women to pursue a STEM career. 

Leading the largest Hispanic STEM organization in the country, Pilar Montoya has grown the SHPE partnerships, chapters and sponsorships to engage over 10,000 members and 318 SHPE chapters throughout the United States. She has helped develop and expand an array of programs including STEM educational activities for K-12^th grade students, science programs, “Noches de Ciencias” (Science Night) programs to involve the whole family, presentations for girls to stimulate awareness and interest in the STEM field.

“With the severe shortage of STEM talent in the United States we believe the Hispanic population and SHPE will help meet the demand for quality STEM talent,” explained Montoya. “Hispanics are the largest and fastest growing ethnic group in the United States and by engaging Hispanic students and parents early, we can ensure that the U.S. has superior leadership in science, technology, engineering and mathematics to improve our environment, quality of life, education, health and well-being.”

                Pilar Montoya has been the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the SHPE since 2009. She has over 25 years of business and financial management experience for private companies and non-profits. Prior to joining SHPE, Ms. Montoya led expansion efforts for a granting foundation in California.  Ms. Montoya was also the Founder and President of a nationally acclaimed Hispanic Marketing agency with corporate, governmental and non-profit clients.

sido reconocida nacionalmente por US STEMconnector™, “Las 100 Mujeres Lideres en STEM,” por sus esfuerzos en aumentar la conciencia, acceso, apoyo y desarrollo de liderazgo dentro de la comunidad hispana en las ciencias, la tecnología, la ingeniería y las matemáticas (STEM, por sus siglas en inglés). En una recepción especial en la Cumbre US News STEM Solutions en Dallas, Tejas el 28 de junio, la Sra. Montoya al lado de otras 99 mujeres fenomenales, fue reconocida por su compromiso en avanzar la causa de animar a más niñas y mujeres jóvenes a que sigan carreras en las áreas de STEM.

 

Como líder de la organización hispana STEM más grande en el país, Pilar Montoya ha aumentado las asociaciones de SHPA, las divisiones y patrocinios para atraer a más de 10,000 miembros en 318 divisiones de SHPE por todo los Estados Unidos. Ella ha ayudado a desarrollar y expandir una multitud de programas incluyendo actividades educacionales STEM para estudiantes del kínder hasta el doceavo grado, programas de las ciencias, programas “Noches de Ciencias” que involucran a la familia entera, presentaciones para niñas para estimular la conciencia y el interés en carreras profesionales de STEM.

 

“Con la falta tan grande en talento STEM dentro de los Estados Unidos, nosotros creemos que la población hispana y SHPE ayudaran a satisfacer la demanda por talento de calidad STEM”, explico Montoya. “Los hispanos son el grupo étnico con más grande crecimiento en los Estados Unidos y al atraer estudiantes y padres hispanos temprano, podemos asegurar que EE.UU. tenga un papel superior de liderazgo en las ciencias, la tecnología, la ingeniería y las matemáticas para mejorar nuestro ambiente, calidad de vida, educación, salud y bienestar”.

 

Pilar Montoya ha servido como presidenta ejecutiva (CEO) de SHPE desde el 2009. Ella tiene más de 25 años de experiencia en la administración de negocios y finanzas para compañías privadas y organizaciones sin fines de lucro. Antes de unirse a SHPE, la Sra. Montoya estuvo al frente de los esfuerzos de expansión para una fundación de subvenciones en California. La Sra. Montoya también estableció y fue presidenta de una agencia reconocida nacionalmente de mercadotecnia hispana con clientes en los ámbitos corporativos, gubernamental y organizaciones sin fines de lucro.
