Law Enforcement Explorers Hold National Conference

Ft. Collins, Colorado (RPRN) 07/16/12 — 2,500 Explorers, Advisors, Law Enforcement Leaders Compete, Teach, Learn Law Enforcement and Fire Skills

– Nearly 2,500 young men and women from all 50 states will take part in the week-long Law Enforcement & Fire/EMS Explorers Conference on the campus of Colorado State University, learning law enforcement and fire/EMS skills and tips from some of the highest-ranking law enforcement and fire/EMS officials in the country.

For young men and women aged 14-20 who are interested in careers in the field of law enforcement and fire/EMS, Exploring offers experience and competition-based learning with lots of fun, educational, hands-on activities that promote personal growth, teamwork and development of adolescent youth.

The 18th biennial conference is an opportunity for Law Enforcement Explorers to participate in several team competitions including arrest and search techniques, crime scene investigation, bomb threat response, and crisis negotiations. Seminars on cyber-crime, explosives, fugitive investigations, leadership, self-defense techniques, postal inspection, narcotics trafficking and interdiction, and border protection are also planned.

In addition, this year for the first time the Fire/EMS Explorers will be joining Law Enforcement Exploring for their national competition. Those events will include CPR, hazardous materials handling, fire incident management, firefighters search and rescue, and more.

Colorado State Attorney General John W. Suthers will deliver the keynote address during the official opening of the conference which begins at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 16 in CSU’s Moby Arena.

High-ranking officials from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, FBI, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Park Police, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, U.S. Secret Service, Colorado State Police, and the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office will take part in the conference.
