San Diego (RPRN) 09/12/12 — Instant Checkmate launches a new corporate initiative to strengthen employee collaboration, enhance productivity, and provide a positive, professional atmosphere for its staff.
Instant Checkmate has opted for an incentive-based productivity model in a concerted effort to further increase productivity and employee collaboration. The buzz words at the heart of the company are “team effort”, and that’s exactly what its employees are all about.
According to Michael Smith, Human Resources Specialist at Instant Checkmate, “We have such high levels of productivity here at Instant Checkmate, and each employee brings a unique set of skills to the table. To keep our work environment fresh and efficient, we’ve added some new initiatives designed to enhance productivity levels. One part of the new initiative was to give employees a way to enjoy downtime by installing a new ping pong table at the Pacific Beach office in San Diego. Employees can play a friendly game of ping pong during breaks or when they need to take their mind off work for a minute. Smith said that while the overall work environment at Instant Checkmate is professional and centered around maximizing output, offering some playtime provides the right type of balance for employees to function at optimum productivity levels.
“The theory behind these incentives is to keep our employees happy and well-balanced. Everybody needs a little bit of downtime every now and then. It’s healthy and necessary. When employees get stressed out from working for a long period of time, it’s smarter to step away for a minute and take a breather than to just continue struggling. It improves mental clarity and lets them quickly get back on track,” said Smith.
The second part of the initiative involves the company’s weekly installment of “drafter-noon” which is a meeting held every Friday in the office towards the end of the workday. An employee is selected each week to give a presentation to the rest of the team, usually about their current work project or another topic that is relevant to their position. Employees are welcome to enjoy a beverage of their choice during the presentation. This, like the ping pong table games, establishes a work hard, play hard environment for employees, giving them an opportunity to stay focused on the job while still being given the space to bond with co-workers in a social environment.
“Drafter-noon is a fun way for employees to share what they’ve been working on throughout the week without having the stereotypical serious undertone of traditional office meetings,” said Smith. He added that the weekly gathering has created a stronger sense of community amongst employees, as well as a better understanding of what everyone is working on, and the role each person plays within the company. This helps to solidify the staff, and propel the company’s productivity even further, ensuring that every employee is on the same page.
The third phase of the employee incentive program establishes monthly opportunities for social bonding amongst co-workers. This means that every month, one random work day gets cut short, and the entire office is taken on a fun field trip. For the first field trip in the month of August, all Pacific Beach Instant Checkmate employees were bussed downtown to watch a Padres game together.
