URGENT ACTION: Highly-respected Tibetan monk Tenzin Delek Rinpoche Must be Released from Chinese Jail. Wrongful conviction must be overturned
Toronto-ON(rushprnews) 01/24/2007This Friday, January 26th, marks four years since Tenzin Delek Rinpoche's was given a death sentence and his co-defendant; twenty-eight year old Lobsang Dhondup was executed by Chinese authorities. Both men were wrongly arrested and convicted for their alleged involvement in a series of unsolved bombings in Eastern Tibet.
The two-year suspension of Tenzin Delek's sentence expired on January 26th, 2005, and Chinese authorities, under intense international pressure, commuted his sentence to life in prison. Tenzin Delek is a highly revered monk in his community, he is known for his dedication to preserving Tibetan religion, culture and protecting the environment. He supports the Dalai Lama's views of non-violence. Over the last ten years he has experienced harassment, intimidation, and control by Chinese officials.
