Rockville-MD(rushprnews)05/08/2006-Funfit Family Fitness Center slashes prices on all classes, camps and parties to help our customers pay for gas and thank them for making the trip to its center. In addition, Funfit, well known in the Washington area for providing original children's fitness programming since 1987, introduces the newest Funfit program.  Family YOGA. As our name says, Funfit has put the FUN in kids' Yoga! A new beginning class for kids and parents ages 3-10 years. Through movement, games, stories, brief meditation, concentration activities and songs, children learn various yoga positions and postures, while improving their focus, strength, coordination, balance and confidence.  Funfit's Yoga classes are based on Kundalini Yoga and is taught by Celia Kibler, President of Funfit Inc., certified Instructor, Level 2 Radiant Child Yoga. Celia explained "Funfit Yoga provides the child and the participating parent with a heart-healthy workout that they can enjoy together, while learning fun, new ways to benefit from the meditative peace of Yoga. At the Funfit center, our active family programming is also offered through our unique Summer Camps, Birthday Parties, Open Gym and a wide variety of classes for kids and their parents."

The National Center for Health Statistics reveals that there has been a 45 percent increase in children's obesity between the 1988-1994 surveys to the latest data gathered between 1999-2002. There are no signs of that trend reversing without a complete societal makeover and a new approach to how families spend their time together. Funfit's Yoga and other Funfit programs of this kind are a fun alternative to many traditional team sports, as well as a much needed solution to this serious children's health crisis in America.

 FAMILY FUNFIT
Why Funfit programs? Because they are an opportunity to bring the whole family to one class - making exercise a true family experience. Children learn what they live, and their strongest role models are their parents. At Funfit, families can enjoy a variety of high energy, heart-healthy, full-of-fun workouts designed to ensure that fitness becomes a family tradition that is created by exercising together.

Special Needs families are invited to join any of our Funfit classes. Mainstreaming is a great way to build new bridges of acceptance for families and others, as well as accelerating children's progress.

TIPS FOR MAKING YOGA A PART OF YOUR FAMILY by Shakta Kaur Khalsa
(Master of Yoga for Children, author of many Women & Children's Yoga Books)

Create a special time of the day for yoga. Take some time in the morning or evening, and follow it with a deep relaxation.

Make a sacred space.Use a small table or cover a box with a cloth. Decorate it with pictures and objects that have special meaning for your child. Use a candle for focus during a meditative yoga time.

Begin by closing your eyes, and taking a few deep breaths. Mentally or out loud recognize the inner guidance, and connect it to the universal guidance, however you perceive it to be.

How long do you practice yoga? With preschoolers, ten to fifteen minutes is a good start. Each exercises lasts thirty seconds to one minute. You can add more time as they get used to it, and develop the ability to stay focused. Elementary-age children can easily keep up for twenty minutes, including a few minutes of deep relaxation, and perhaps a meditation of a few minutes. Of course, each individual child is different. You will know best what is the capacity of your child. Remember, it is better to start simply, and build gradually.

Keep it F-U-N, those three little letters that are so important! Entice your child with interesting, imaginative, engaging exercises. Reach into their inner self using your intuition and light-hearted humor rather than your intellect.
