MONTRÉAL,QC(rushprnews)07/26/2006 – Director Marc-André Forcier, "enfant terrible” of Québec cinema, will serve on the Jury of the 30th edition of the Montréal World Film Festival, it was announced today. Forcier joins American actress Kathy Bates, Vibeke Windelov, the Danish producer of Lars von Trier's films, veteran Argentine actor Federico Luppi, and French screenwriter Guillaume Laurant on the international jury for the Festival's competitive section.
“Marc-André Forcier is without doubt one of the premier creative talents of his generation in Québec, a passionate filmmaker who has always put art above commerce in his work," said World Film Festival President Serge Losique. "His original style, at once touching and bewitching and the product of a brimming imagination, has earned him the affection not only of Canadian filmgoers but of movie lovers worldwide.”
A director who marches to his own drum, Forcier has been the recipient of numerous honours and prizes over the course of his brilliant career, including the Silver Mermaid at the Sorrento Festival in 1974 for BAR SALON, presented in person by Vittorio de Sica; the FIPRESCI (international film press) prize at Chamrousse in 1978 for A PACEMAKER AND A SIDECAR; Best Canadian Film and the FIPRESCI Prize for WIND FROM WYOMING at the 1994 Montréal World Film Festival; and the Prix Albert-Tessier in 2003, the Québec government's highest award in cinema. His films have been shown in festivals and cinémathèques around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, and his work has been the subject of many retrospectives and tributes, in Canada and abroad.
