TIBETANS TARGET BOMBARDIER’S ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Demonstrators call on Bombardier to adopt a human rights policy

Montreal,QC(rushprnews)05/29/2006- Tibetans and their supporters, carrying colourful placards and banners, will demonstrate at Bombardier’s annual general meeting on Tuesday, May 30th, to oppose the company’s continued involvement in the controversial Gormo-Lhasa Railway.  To date Bombardier has not conducted human rights, environmental or socio-cultural impact assessments as promoted by international standards of corporate social responsibility.  An international coalition of Tibetan rights groups have been campaigning for Bombardier to withdraw from the project which will link Tibet and China for the first time, thereby strengthening China’s control over occupied Tibet. Tibetans fear the railway will facilitate an influx of Chinese settlers into Tibet and threaten the survival of Tibetan culture, amounting to a form of cultural genocide.

Shareholders are being asked to vote in favour of a resolution calling on Bombardier to adopt a human rights policy and take concrete measures to ensure the railway will not further threaten the Tibetan people and their environment. The board and senior management of Bombardier are opposing the resolution.
