Delhi Boom! at Cannes Film Festival
London,UK (rushprnews) May 11 2007 – First production from independent new writer/director/producer team Sameer and Premila Puri of GAP2000 Films -  Delhi Boom!  – has been selected for a premiere screening at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. Submitted by Minerva Pictures Group, Delhi Boom! will be screened at Cannes Market on Wednesday 16 May at 12.00 noon at Palais E, Cannes. (www.cannesmarket.com)

In the style of El Mariachi, Delhi Boom! is the first truly independent film to emerge from India, and is hailed as a groundbreaker for a new breed of experimental, underground movies.
Sameer Puri, the film’s writer/director commented: “There are regular low-budget movies, and then there are independent films. The difference is in the creative freedom you have as a film-maker to experiment and make something unique.”

Set in a single day on the streets of India’s capital, Delhi Boom! tells the tale of two brothers whose lives change irrevocably following a dramatic encounter with a lawyer. What follows is a hard-hitting perspective of a world that comes crashing down on both brothers. Every character associated with them feels the effect of their actions until consequences come full circle by 5 pm.

This unconventional, foreign cult film reveals there is much more to film-making in India than just Bollywood-style movies, and marks a milestone for independent films in the fast changing Indian film industry. It is the first song-less, English-spoken action feature from
India; a fast-paced, modern movie with innovative, sometimes moody, cinematography. “We wanted to break away from the song and dance routine, and use a rough look with pedestrian locations to showcase a grainy, edgy
India,” says producer Premila Puri. 

Inspired by true events, the film stars rising Indian actors and talent, supported by an international crew, including collaborative talent from
India, England, Ireland, China, Netherlands, and Australia.  Delhi Boom! was written/produced/directed and edited by brother and sister team
Sameer and Premila Puri of GAP2000 FILMS (UK), distributed/represented by MINERVA PICTURES GROUP (Italy), and is due for release early in 2008.
