‘Arthur’s Paradise ‘ goes to Hollywood Film Festival Hollywood Unrolls Red Carpet to Award Winning Canadian Filmmaker
HOLLYWOOD, CA. (RUSHPRNEWS)Â October 4, 2007 -Â ‘Arthur’s Paradise’ by award winning Canadian filmmaker Luc Beauchamp will be presented at the Hollywood Film Festival, Friday, October 19th at 3 PM .
Winner for 2nd place Best Experimental film at the Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) in August 2007, director Luc Beauchamp’s docu-fantasy film ‘Arthur’s Paradise ‘ will be presented again in the United States next October, in the Official Selection of the prestigious Hollywood Film Festival (HFF), Beverly Hills , California .
‘Arthur’s Paradise’ premiered in Switzerland in Spring 2006 at the Visions du Réel film festival, then was invited to close the Rencontres Internationales du Documentaire de Montréal film festival the following November, where it was projected to a full house. Spring 2007, Arthur strikes in Toronto . Impressed by its stunning originality, Hot Docs , the biggest documentary film festival in North America , invites the film to participate in its annual festival edition. ‘Arthur’s Paradise ‘ was chosen within the film industry as one of the best documentary film to be shown that year. Presented as a US Premiere at the RIIFF , last August, ‘Arthur’s Paradise ‘ received its first prize in the hotly contested category “Best Experimental†film.
Critics called ‘Arthur’s Paradise ‘ a fiction, a documentary, or a mixture of both. Some dare to even call it a “UFO†movie. Although we may argue about genre, Academy Award-winning veteran filmmaker Frédéric Back summed it up as “…a tour de force of imagination and work…”.
The HFF will mark the second American festival for ‘Arthur’s Paradise ‘. The HFF was created to bridge the gap between Hollywood and the global creative community, while at the same time honoring established Hollywood professionals.
Six years ago, Luc Beauchamp was looking for a new project and he visited a pig farm in Québec ( Canada ). Struck by the fragility and resilience of nature, Beauchamp convinced the farmer Daniel Beauchamp (not related) to take on the first role and let him shoot on the farm. The film was written, directed, filmed and produced by Luc Beauchamp with the technical help of the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). Shot with a minimal crew and a lot of resolve, ‘Arthur’s Paradise ‘ shocks the genres of fiction and documentary in a unique and daring mix.Â
The 50-minute film uses music as its only dialogue and starts as a visual documentary of a farmer’s routine life on a pig farm in Quebec, then turns into a surrealistic fantasy as the farmer is faced with a barnyard revolt, pigs go on a hunger strike and all hell breaks loose after the disappearance of their favorite opera record.
The filmmaker, Luc Beauchamp, previously directed “The Lion and the Lamb†which was broadcast on The Sundance Channel in 1999 and won “Best Short Film” at the South By Southwest Festival (SXSW). ‘Arthur’s Paradise ‘ is the first film he has written, directed and produced. The film is independently distributed by Netima.
The screenings will take place at Arclight Cinemas located at 6360 W. Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles . (On Sunset Blvd. between Vine and Ivar)
