BAGHDAD (RPRN) 6/26/2009–Iraqi police say at least 13 people have been killed in a bomb blast in central Baghdad, in the latest violence to hit the country. Security officials say more than 40 others were wounded early Friday when a bomb planted on a motorcycle exploded at a market selling motorbikes. Friday’s attack in the capital comes just four days before U.S. forces are set to pull out of Iraqi cities. It is the latest in a series of deadly bombings.
Wednesday, at least 76 people were killed in an explosion at a market in Baghdad’s mostly Shi’ite district of Sadr City. A truck bombing last Saturday near Kirkuk killed nearly 70 people.
U.S. and Iraqi leaders say a rise in violence is expected as U.S. combat forces prepare to pull out from Iraqi cities.
