Chicago to host 2007 AIBA World Boxing Championships in October
Chicago, IL (rushprnews)May 4, 2007 – The International Boxing Association (AIBA) is delighted to confirm that the 2007 World Championships will be held in the U.S. city of Chicago from October 17 – November 1, following a proposal from USA Boxing.
The announcement follows the earlier confirmation by AIBA on April 17 of the United States as the host country.
“This is a great day for the city of Chicago, a great day for USA Boxing and a great day for the entire Boxing community,” USA Boxing President Tom Virgets said. “Chicago has always given great support to the sport of Boxing not only in the U.S. but for Boxers worldwide and the city is fully equipped and ready to put on a wonderful spectacle.”

The 2007 World Championships, which also double as the opening qualification tournament for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, are expected to be the biggest ever with over 1,000 boxers and officials expected to attend.
