“Dark Knight” Released on Bail after Arrest For Verbal Assault

Christian Bale allegedly assaults mother and sister “verbally,” a crime in England

HAMPSHIRE, UK (RUSHPRNEWS) 7/23/08 – – Christian Bale attended a London police station today on a voluntary basis, said Bale’s lawyers in London through a written statement. Christian Bale, 34, co-stars with the late Heath Ledger in ‘The Dark Knight.’ Bale’s mother Jenny and sister Sharon, complained to police that Bale had assaulted them at the hotel Dorchester in London, England on Sunday, one day before the European premier of ‘The Dark Knight.’

After spending nearly four hours with police, Bale was not charged and released on bail.
“Bale who denies the allegation, cooperated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police,” Bale’s lawyers added.

London newspapers reported trouble brewing in the Bale family kinship, just a day after his mother and sister made the complaint, allegedly for verbal assault to the Hampshire Constabulary. Verbal assault is considered a crime in England. Bale is said have been released pending further investigation into the family squabble and report with the Constabulary in September, although no official date has been set.

Bale stars as Bruce Wayne, opposite Heather Ledger as the Joker in ‘The Dark Knight’ which broke box office records in it’s opening week bringing in an astounding $158 million. Ledger died of an accidental drug overdose in January of this year. ‘The Dark Knight’ premier tour is set to open in Spain and Japan within the week. Bale was in England promoting ‘The Dark Knight’ and visiting with his family for the premier weekend.

The Welsh born Bale who reprises his role from ‘Batman Begins’ has also appeared in ‘American Psycho’ and Steven Spielberg’s ‘Empire of the Sun.’ Bale is set to star in the May 2009 release of ‘Terminator Salvation,’ the fourth film in the Terminator sci-fi series.

Bale is married to Sandra Blazic, once a personal assistant to Winona Ryder. Bale and Blazic have one child together, Emmeline. Bale was also the stepson to feminist activist, Gloria Steinem who married Bale’s father David in 2000. David passed away in 2003. Bale has two other sisters, Louise and Erin. Bale, his wife, and daughter currently reside in Los Angeles.
