Celebrities want youth to vote

HOLLYWOOD, CA (RUSHPRNEWS) 9/17/08 – With the presidential election less than two months away, Jessica Alba has donned black masking tape to encourage the historically apathetic teenage and 20-something sets to cast their votes. An ad for nonprofit Declare Yourself features the “Fantastic Four” star apparently naked, tied up and gagged by the adhesive strips.
“If you don’t register and vote and make a difference and hopefully change the bad things that are happening in our country, you are essentially just binding and muzzling yourself,” Alba, 27, told People magazine. “I think it is important for young people to be aware of the need we have in this country to get them more active politically.”
Zac Efron, America Ferrara and others lent their voices to Declare Yourself’s Web site, encouraging fans to become politically active, and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has teamed with the organization, asking her audience to register to vote. In fact, the two oldest of the Jonas Brothers, Kevin (20) and Joe (19), registered to vote during their recent appearance on her program.
Pop star Christina Aguilera and rapper André 3000 also shot ads for Declare Yourself, featuring the tag line “Only You Can Silence Yourself.” Aguilera’s photograph features the “Fighter” singer crying with her mouth sewn shut, while André 3000 is also shown crying, but with a bow tie in his mouth.
