Suffield, OH (RUSHPRNEWS) August 29, 2008 — International Association of Information Technology Asset Managers, Inc. (“IAITAM”) announced that the updated final draft of the ISO/IEC 19770-2 “Information technology – Software asset management – Part 2: Software identification tag” standard is available for all interested parties to download from the IAITAM website.
IAITAM is in the process of becoming a Category C Liaison with the ISO/IEC working group responsible for SAM standards (‘WG21’), and IAITAM members have been some of the most active in developing 19770-2. As previously announced, this close working relationship is further demonstrated by WG21’s holding its interim 2008 meeting in tandem with IAITAM’s 2008 Annual Conference and Exhibition in October.
Approval has been granted to submit this final draft for voting by national bodies after the validation period which runs from August 25 through September 19, 2008. This final distribution is being done to ensure that final editorial changes to the standard were done correctly. After September 22, the draft will go into ISO/IEC copyright lockdown and copies will not be made available after that date to the public at large unless the individual is formally involved in the ISO/IEC standards-making process. The other working group (‘OWG’ within WG21) that created this draft is made up of SAM practitioners, SAM consultants, SAM tool providers, SAM service providers and software manufacturers. This diverse group has worked tirelessly to produce a working document that addresses the requirements of all SAM eco-system members to dramatically improve software identification processes.
IAITAM President Barbara Rembiesa states that, “IAITAM is honored to assist the ISO/IEC OWG by making the draft standard available to the ITAM community. IAITAM’s commitment to a global standard for every aspect of IT Asset Management makes publication of this draft an integral step in moving the ITAM profession forward.”
Steven Klos, a co-presenter at the IAITAM 2008 Annual Conference and Convener of the OWG responsible for ISO/IEC 19770-2, states that “Having IAITAM participate in the standard development process and making this draft standard release available to the ITAM community at large expands the reach of the ISO/IEC other working group and continues its efforts to reach all SAM eco-system members in an effort to create a uniform global standard.”
