McCain’s Campaign Goes into High Gear Online, Still Trails Obama‘s
WASHINGTON,DC (RUSHPRNEWS)08/08/2008–Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is continuing to trail Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) in using the Web to get out information and take in donations. “While the Republicans have focused on more traditional avenues, such as TV ads, to reach voters, the Democrats have aggressively used social networks and other audience-participation sites to build support among younger voters and small donors,” BusinessWeek reported.
Until youth voter turnout and information about Obama’s online fundraising came in during the primaries, it wasn’t clear how much the Web would really matter in the elections. Now, McCain’s campaign is switching communication strategies to focus more on the Web.

Those Unaffiliated with Campaigns Exert Influence Online
The 2008 presidential race is bringing out a new type of political operative on the Web. The New York Times reported, “…In the 2008 race, the first in which campaigns are feeling the full force of the changes wrought by the Web, the most attention-grabbing attacks are increasingly coming from people outside the political world. In some cases they are amateurs operating with nothing but passion, a computer and a YouTube account, in other cases sophisticated media types with more elaborate resources but no campaign experience.”
