“Great To Be Nominated” Plays on with “The Piano”
Beverly Hills, CA (RUSHPRNEWS) March 19, 2008 — The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ popular “Great To Be Nominated†series begins its fifth and final installment on Monday, April 21, with Jane Campion’s “The Piano.â€Â The 17-week series, which will run through August 25, will showcase the film from each Academy Awards® year between 1993 and 2007 that received the most nominations without winning the Oscar® for Best Picture. All screenings will be held on Monday evenings at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Two films will represent each of two Awards years. In 1997 “L.A. Confidential†and “Good Will Hunting†each received nine nominations and won two Academy Awards. In 2006 “Babel†received six nominations, including Best Picture, and “Dreamgirls†received seven nominations, the most of any film that year, but did not receive a nomination for Best Picture.
In addition to the feature film, other elements from each year, such as short subjects, behind-the-scenes footage, trailers and music, will be incorporated into each evening’s program.
Tickets and passes for “Great To Be Nominated†go on sale April 1. Passes for the entire series are $30 for the general public and $25 for students with valid ID and Academy members. Patrons wishing to renew passes from parts one, two, three or four will receive a $5 discount (patrons must bring or mail in their old pass to receive the discount). Individual tickets are $5 for the general public and $3 for students and members. Tickets may be purchased by mail, in person at the Academy during regular business hours or, depending on availability, on the night of the screening when the doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets also may be purchased online at www.oscars.org/events. There are no minimum order requirements and no transaction or processing fees. Tickets may be purchased online until noon PT on the day of the event.
