Hollyshorts April Installment of Screening Series to Feature 5 Acclaimed Short Films

Hollywood, CA (rushprnews) April 24, 2007 -Oscar Winner and Most Downloaded Short Film on the iTunes Music Store “West Bank Story”, “The Pill”, “Available Men”, “Madame Priscilla’s” and “Anaphase End”. The organizers of HollyShorts (www.hollyshorts.com) announced today the lineup of the April installment of HollyShorts Monthly Screening Series which takes place on Thursday, April 26 at The Space theatre in Hollywood. The event begins at 8pm.

This month’s screening series will feature this year’s Oscar Winning Short Drama and the most downloaded short film on iTunes WEST BANK STORY, directed by Ari Sandel; acclaimed short Drama THE PILL directed by Michelle Goetsch; HollyShorts ’06 official selection comedy AVAILABLE MEN directed by David Dean Bottrell; comedy MADAME PRISCILLA’S written by Sahag Gureghian and directed by Mary Tang; and suspense thriller ANAPHASE END Directed by Ben Westlake.

In making the announcement, HollyShorts Monthly Screening Director Daniel Sol said: “It’s exciting to continue showcasing an eclectic mix of quality short films on a monthly basis. The April lineup is one of the most enticing groups of films we’ve ever seen and we look forward to a great night of screening, prizes, drinks and networking!”

ANAPHASE END: Written by J. David Everhart and directed by Ben Westlake. ANAPHASE END tells the story of an asexual journalist who deals with being blacklisted by taking a ghostwriting job for a top news anchor.  He mainly covers a reoccurring serial killer story and is aroused for the first time in his life, upon discovering who the killer really is.

AVAILABLE MEN: Directed by David Dean Bottrell, AVAILABLE MEN tells the story of Rob, a harried Hollywood agent is dispatched to a trendy L.A. bar with strict orders to sign a hot new writer that he has never met. On the same night, Steve, a senstive gay man (with same first name as the writer) arrives at the bar to meet a blind date. Hilarity ensues when Rob and Steve mistake each other for the person they were supposed to meet.

SHORT FILM “WEST BANK STORY”

MADAME PRISCILLA’S: Written by Sahag Gureghian and directed by Mary Tang, MADDAME PRISCILLA’S tells the story of  Five strangers, each desperate for love, search for it at an L.A. coffee shop with an unusual way of doing business. MADDAME PRISCILLA was the audience winner at this year’s Valley Film Festival.

THE PILL: Directed by Michelle Goetsch, THE PILL tells the story of a woman and her husband who are surprised by a positive pregnancy test while using the birth control pill. Although the baby cannot be found on the sonogram, there is an intimate bond between mother and child she desperately upholds. When the discovery of a pill used to erase traumatic memories complicates matters, “The Pill” illustrates how some things are better left forgotten. “The Pill” has appeared in over 8 film festivals.
 

WEST BANK STORY: Directed by Ari Sandel, “Westbank Story” is this years Academy Award winner in the category of Short Live Action and is a musical comedy set in the fast-paced, fast-food world of competing falafel stands in the West Bank. David, an Israeli soldier, falls in love with the beautiful Palestinian cashier, Fatima, despite the animosity between their families’ dueling restaurants. Can the couple’s love withstand a 2000 year old conflict and their families’ desire to control the future of the chic pea in the Middle East. WESTBANK STORY was an official selection of the ’05 Sundance film festival.
The Space Theatre is located at 665 N. Heliotrope Drive, Hollywood, CA. Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door. A reception will immediately follow the screenings with complimentary cocktails. The monthly screening series also featured a raffle sponsored by The Showbiz Software Store.

Submissions are now being accepted for the 3rd Annual HollyShorts, Short Film Festival. The regular deadline is April 27, 2007 and the late deadline is May 25, 2007. All short films must be 30 minutes or under. Categories include Short Live Action, Short Animation, Short Documentary and Student Short. There is a $5 discount for students.
