Jane Fonda to Discuss “Coming Home” at NYC Academy Screening
New York, NY (RUSHPRNEWS) October 26,2007â€“ Academy AwardÂ®-winning actress Jane Fonda and producer Jerome Hellman will be the special guests at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciencesâ€™ â€œMonday Nights with OscarÂ®â€ screening of the 1978 film â€œComing Homeâ€ on Monday, November 12, at 7 p.m. at the Academy Theater in New York City. Fonda and Hellman will participate in a post-screening onstage discussion about the film.
Nominated for eight Academy AwardsÂ®, including Best Picture, â€œComing Homeâ€ won OscarsÂ® for the performances of its two stars, Fonda and Jon Voight. It marked only the fourth time in over half a century that the lead actor and actress winners emerged from the same film. The film also won for Writing â€“ Screenplay written directly for the screen (Story by Nancy Dowd; Screenplay by Waldo Salt, Robert C. Jones).
â€œComing Homeâ€ takes a close look at a marine officerâ€™s deployment to Vietnam, a wounded veteranâ€™s readjustment to civilian life and a womanâ€™s personal transformation from a dutiful military wife to a purpose-driven, independent and socially conscious individual.
Produced by Hellman and directed by Hal Ashby, the film incorporates some of the eraâ€™s most popular and defining songs, by such recording artists as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Jefferson Airplane, Buffalo Springfield and Janis Joplin.
The filmâ€™s Oscar nominations also include Actor in a Supporting Role (Bruce Dern), Actress in a Supporting Role (Penelope Milford), Directing (Ashby) and Film Editing (Don Zimmerman).
â€œMonday Nights with Oscarâ€ is a monthly series showcasing high-quality prints of films that have been nominated for or won Academy Awards. For this screening, the Academy will present a new print from the Academy Film Archive.
Tickets for â€œComing Homeâ€ are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid ID. Tickets may be reserved by calling 1-888-778-7575. Depending on availability, tickets may be purchased in person on the night of the screening. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. All seating is unreserved.
