Detroit, MI (RUSHPRNEWS) JULY 23, 2008— “Mom, I’m bored!” The three words every parent dreads will soon be spoken unless parents “nip it in the bud,” so says Michigan school teacher DJ Duey. Many parents will say “play outside,” or “put on the new video game,” or even “go watch TV.” But parents who want their children to retain what they learned during the school year all summer long will be thinking of ways to keep their kids busy in fun mind engaging activities.
One way parents can keep their children occupied, entertained and active is by giving them an educational CD with music they can dance to.
Mr. Duey, an elementary and middle school teacher and musician, has produced an album of music designed to teach children Math, Science, English and Social Studies with songs about Integers, Nouns, Cells and many more subjects. Educational leaders promoting innovative teaching interventions have described Mr. Duey’s CD as a revolutionary tool to advance academic learning. “It’s the perfect item to give to kids for the summer and they won’t think they are being forced to ‘learn’ something,” says Duey.
“Class Dis-Missed” presold 4200 copies, and in just a few weeks more than 186,000 educators have watched his video called “Fractions” on Teacher Tube making it the TOP TEN most watched video ever! www.TeacherTube.com Detroit NBC affiliate WDIV-TV ran a feature a few weeks ago broadcasting live from the school.
Mr. Duey’s unique approach to education has also been featured by WJR-AM and WWJ News Radio in Detroit, WTIC in Hartford, WHFS-FM Baltimore and NPR affiliate WDET as well as Japan’s Kyodo News Service.
A nationally prominent professor of teacher education from Eastern Michigan University, Dr. Elizabeth Johnson, says Mr. Duey’s educational rap will “change education for eternity.” Dave Peden, Superintendent, Southgate Schools said he noticed math test sores going up whenever Mr. Duey substituted and attributes this to the music of Mr. Duey, citing the CD’s clean, educational lyrics.
