Obama’s Campaign Manager Statement: Bush and McCain

David Plouffe, Obama’s Campaign Manager Statement: Bush and McCain

by Sam Graham-Felsen

WASHINGTON, (rushprnews) 05/30/2008 -Friend — Behind closed doors this week, George W. Bush quietly hosted a fundraiser for John McCain that raised $3.5 million from about 500 Republican donors.
No cameras were allowed into the event, and the two were only captured on film together at the airport — even then for just 27 seconds as they got into a car to be whisked to the exclusive event.

A pattern is emerging. McCain is going to extraordinary lengths to conceal the fact that at the very foundation of his campaign — its policy positions and now the money driving it — is George W. Bush.

Our campaign has a different approach.

Over the past year, more than 1.5 million individual supporters have contributed to this campaign, giving an average of less than $100.

This Saturday is the financial reporting deadline for the month of May. It will be a test of whether millions of ordinary people giving whatever they can afford can go toe-to-toe with the Bush-McCain fundraising machine.

You can help defeat Bush and McCain by inspiring a fellow supporter to take the next step and own a piece of this campaign.

Make a matching donation, and you’ll double the impact of a supporter’s first gift. You can even choose to exchange a message with them about why you are supporting Barack.

Continue to build our movement and show that we’re ready to take on John McCain, George Bush, and their friends:

In the past 24 hours, thousands of supporters like you have stood up to George Bush and John McCain. They’ve made it clear that they are ready for a new kind of politics and a new kind of leadership.

Here’s what a few of them had to say.

Debra from Arvada, CO, gave a $25 first-time donation and wrote this to the previous donor who matched her gift:

“Thank you, Kandy, for matching my contribution. I don’t have much to give, so it means a lot that it will be doubled by your additional donation. I have been a supporter of Barack Obama for many months, and I finally decided that there was no more important place to spend my money. I agree that we need a president who truly represents us as the good, caring, honest nation of individuals that we are, instead of feeling sad and ashamed of what our government is doing in our name.”

Barry from Pittsburgh, PA, gave a $100 first-time gift and wrote:

“You rock Tom, I had been wanting to contribute for a while, but your matching my contribution is what motivated me to do it and made now the perfect time. Thank you for giving me the reason to act now since I wanted to support Obama anyway. Yes we can!”

You can inspire a fellow supporter to become a first-time donor and share their story. Encourage someone new to own a piece of this campaign before Saturday’s deadline.

Double the impact of your donation by matching a first-time donor today:

McCain is running to continue George Bush’s failed policies for another term, and he’s relying on the Bush fundraising machine of Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs to drive his campaign.

This campaign has never accepted money from Washington lobbyists or PACs. But in order to compete with one that does, it’s going to take every one of us stepping up and owning a piece of this movement.
