Paul Newman Leaves Hospital to spend his last days with his beloved family

NEW YORK (RUSHPRNEWS) AUGUST 15, 2008–Academy Award Winner Actor and philanthropist Paul Newman’s battle with cancer is nearing the end. Newman left the hospital a few days ago and has chosen to die at home with his family and friends.

Born 26 January 1925, the star of “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” and “The Sting” was being treated at Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York. He was seen and photographed leaving the hospital in a wheel chair to return home for his final days.

25 years after “The Hustler”, Newman reprised his role of “Fast” Eddie Felson in the Martin Scorsese directed The Color of Money (1986) for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor.

inf/goff photosNewman married actress Joanne Woodward on January 29, 1958. They have three daughters: Elinor “Nell” Teresa (1959), Melissa “Lissy” Stewart (1961), and Claire “Clea” Olivia (1965).

The type of cancer Newman is suffering has remained a secret. Rumors of lung surgery have circulated but not confirmed.

Newman is also known for racing cars in his youth, and owning a team.

A great philanthropist, Newman has raised millions of dollars for various causes by using his name to brand products. According to Wikipedia, With writer A.E. Hotchner, Newman founded Newman’s Own, a line of food products, in 1982. The brand started with salad dressing, and has expanded to include pasta sauce, lemonade, popcorn, and salsa, among other things. Newman donates the proceeds, after taxes, to charity. As of early 2006, the franchise has resulted in excess of $200 million in donations.

But his generosity doesn’t end there, with various involvements in causes and fund raising efforts.

He is loved and respected not only by his family and friends, but also among his peers and his fans.
