MONTREAL (RushPRNews) 01/15/09– This week’s DVD releases will please everyone, whether you’re a western movie enthusiast, a fan of horror and fantasy, or a dark-comedy buff.
Appaloosa: Good vs Evil… with A Love Story Twist Since its premiere at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival, “Appaloosa†has attracted quite some attention. This is Ed Harris’ second time writing and directing, after his success with “Pollock†in 2000. However, his latest movie has nothing to do with great modern painters. “Appaloosaâ€, staring Ed Harris, Viggo Mortensen and Renée Zellweger, is a traditional western tale based on Robert B. Parker’s novel. This film brings us back to the good old 50’s and 60’s classic westerns, particularly John Ford’s “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence†(1962).

Mirrors: The Mirrors Have Eyes
Alexandre Aja, Golden Palm nominee and winner of several fantasy film awards, is the writer and director of this week’s much anticipated horror DVD release, “Mirrorsâ€, starring Kiefer Sutherland and Paula Patton. A night watchman realizes he’s the victim of an evil force hiding in the mirrors of what is left of a department store. This fantasy-thriller appears to be the remake of “Into the Mirrorâ€, a Korean horror film directed by Sung-ho Kim in 2003. “Mirrors†is as spine-chilling as Aja’s past films, “The Hills Have Eyes†and “P2â€, and was therefore chosen to open the 41st edition of the Sitges International Film Festival of Catalonia.

Swing Vote: Father-Daughter Politics
Politics and comedy are a rare combination in film. It seems presidential elections are too important to be illustrated with humor. Director Joshua Michael Stern took on the challenge of writing a dark comedy about an ordinary American father who’s vote will decide which candidate will be elected president of the USA. Oscar winner Kevin Costner and two-time Golden Globe winner Kelsey Grammer star in “Swing Voteâ€, alongside Paula Patton and child actress Madeline Carroll
