TORONTO (RushPRnews)12/10/08-Tom Cruise rolled in to the Etalk (CTV) studios yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, December 9), for a special taping of Toronto’s celebrity and entertainment dish, hosted by fan favorites Ben Mulroney and Tanya Kim. A handful of fans, press representatives and V.I.P guests, which included Tania Archer former National Sprinter and 1996 Canadian Olympic Team Trialist, were treated to an intimate interview session with Tom, who connected with the crowd by sharing his favorite memories of Canada.
This visit was the last interview of a two-day media blitz designed to promote his upcoming project “Valkyrie”, a movie that has been beset with problems but is being viewed by many as a chance for the once top-drawer star to revive his flagging career.
In “Valkyrie,” which opens Christmas Day, the actor plays Col. Claus von Stauffenberg, a German officer who led a plot during the Second World War to assassinate Adolf Hitler and seize power.
But Cruise’s attempts to revive his career with the Second World War drama have not been easy. The making of “Valkyrie” attracted controversy when it was reported the German government did not allow filmmakers to shoot in certain locations because of Cruise’s religion. Then, a dozen extras on the film were injured when the door of a truck they were riding in fell open.
The film’s release date has twice been changed. There have also been reports that test audiences reacted coolly to the image of Cruise wearing an eye patch, and that new trailers show the actor without the facial accessory.
“Valkyrie” will have stiff competition. It’s being released at a time when many Oscar contenders hit theatres.
Etalk Tom Cruise “Valkyrie†Interview Aired Tuesday December 9 at 7:00pm Etalk/ CTV
