“Tootsie†Sashays into NYC
New York, NY (rushprnews) June 7, 2007- – As a special 25th anniversary screening, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ “Monday Nights with Oscar®†(MNWO) film series will present the 1982 Best Picture nominee “Tootsie,†on Monday, June 18, at 7 p.m. at the Academy Theater in New York City.
Shot on location in and around New York, “Tootsie†is the comedic story of Michael Dorsey (Dustin Hoffman), an out-of-work actor who disguises himself as “Dorothy Michaels†to land a role in a soap opera.
The film also stars Jessica Lange, Bill Murray, Teri Garr and Dabney Coleman. Lange won a Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance as Dorsey’s love interest, Julie Nichols.
“Tootsie†received an additional nine Academy Award® nominations: Actor in a Leading Role (Hoffman), Actress in a Supporting Role (Garr), Cinematography (Owen Roizman), Directing (Sydney Pollack), Film Editing (Fredric Steinkamp, William Steinkamp), Original Song (“It Might Be You,â€
(Music by Dave Grusin; Lyric by Alan Bergman and Marilyn Bergman), Best Picture (Pollack and Dick Richards, producers), Sound (Arthur Piantadosi, Les Fresholtz, Dick Alexander, Les Lazarowitz), and Writing – Screenplay written directly for the screen (Screenplay by Larry Gelbart, Murray Schisgal; Story by Don McGuire, Gelbart).
The program will also include a screening of the 1982 animated short nominee “The Great Cognito,†a stop-motion claymation short by Will Vinton. Vinton, who created the pop icons the California Raisins, won an Academy Award for the animated short “Closed Mondays†in 1974.
MNWO is a monthly series showcasing high-quality prints of films that have been nominated for or won Academy Awards®. This screening will feature a newly struck print from the Academy Film Archive.
The Academy Theater is located at 111 East 59th Street in New York City. Tickets for the screening are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid ID. Tickets may be reserved by calling 1-888-778-7575. Depending on availability, tickets may be purchased on the night of the screening. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
