36 Stores in 18 Markets to Feature Special Exhibits, Events and More, Beginning in August; Initiative to Focus on Fashion of Hollywood’s Leading Men and Women
Atlanta, GA (RPRN) 8/13/2009–Cinematic style is about to take center stage when Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and Bloomingdale’s partner on a major, multi-faceted initiative celebrating the fashion of Hollywood’s leading men and leading ladies. LIGHTS, CAMERA, FASHION will bring the art of film fashion to 36 Bloomingdale’s stores in 18 top markets through specially designed in-store exhibits, contests and live events, including appearances by TCM host and film historian Robert Osborne. TCM is one of several partners working with Bloomingdale’s on the initiative, which begins in August and continues through October.

The following is a rundown of multiple elements in the LIGHTS, CAMERA, FASHION initiative:
Exhibit Walls: Each store participating in LIGHTS, CAMERA, FASHION will feature two full exhibition walls with 16 portraits each of Hollywood stars, accompanied by biographical information, notable film credits and trivia. The images will come from TCM’s Leading Ladies and Leading Men books, copies of which will be on display at the exhibit wall and available for purchase. In addition, DVDs of five specially selected classic films will be on display and available for purchase. Movie fans also will be able to pick up free copies of TCM’s monthly Now Playing guide, which will feature a full-page ad touting the TCM/Bloomingdale’s promotion.
Black & White Fashionable Fundraiser: The weekend of Aug. 27-30, participating stores will host a special Black & White Fashionable Fundraiser event, joining Bloomingdale’s signature black & white main floors with the glorious black-and-white photography of many classic films. Trivia questions will be displayed throughout each store during the event, giving shoppers the chance to submit their answers in special boxes. One grand prize winner will be chosen from each region to receive a TCM Movie Library, complete with 80 of cinema’s greatest films. A second prize winner in each store will receive a TCM gift basket. Additional winners will take home a TCM crossword puzzle book.
TCM Host Robert Osborne Appearances: Robert Osborne, who serves as host for TCM and official historian for the Academy Awards®, will be in New York stores in September. He’ll sign copies of his latest book, 80 Years of Oscar, as well as TCM’s Leading Ladies and Leading Men.
Set the Scene Cast Party Displays: Beginning in mid-August, participating Bloomingdale’s stores will feature Set the Scene Cast Party displays in the housewares and table top departments. The table settings will include TCM film images integrated using frames, place cards, mock scripts and TCM tune-in messaging.
New York 59th Street Flagship Store Window Display: Kicking off the 11-week event will be a special store window display at Bloomingdale’s flagship store on Lexington Ave. in New York. The display will feature beautifully framed images of iconic Hollywood stars and clothes that influenced the nation’s fashion. First, the window will feature images of 16 trend-setting actresses, such as Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, Joan Crawford, Elizabeth Taylor and Katharine Hepburn. A few weeks later, the window will change over to celebrate Hollywood’s fashionable men, including Clark Gable, Montgomery Clift, Robert Mitchum, Kirk Douglas and James Cagney. In addition, the window display will feature mannequins showcasing cinematically inspired women’s and men’s designer outfits.
Bloomingdale’s Best of Men’s Catalog: TCM images and tune-in messages will be incorporated into Bloomingdale’s September Best of Men’s fashion catalog. The catalog will feature a six-page section showing a modern adaptation of the business suit, complete with a slimmer silhouette, subtler patterns and a four-button vest.
TCM Classic Movie News: TCM’s on-air digest of news about classic movie entertainment will tout the TCM/Bloomingdale’s partnership. Classic Movies News provides the latest information about home-video releases, books, CDs, exhibits, events, etc.
