From the University of Virginia (rushprnews) April 16th, 2007 – Thirty-two students dead and many more wounded at what is now the worst tragedy at a U.S. university campus. The toll is mounting as local police and officials are counting, stated officials at a live broadcast directly from the University campus earlier today. The shooter was initially believed to be a student but at the moment is no longer thought so. It now appears that similarly to the Dawson Campus’ incident in Montreal, that the shooter had no relation to the school as a student or member of the staff. But school or police officials have issued no firm confirmation at the time one way or another. The shooter was not carrying any identification cards, therefor his identity is still unclear. Victim’s name has not been released to the public yet.
The victims were at different locations as the shooter moved around before taking his own life. The shooter is male and asian.
The shootings, which started shortly after 7:30 a.m., occurred in at least two places, Norris and West Ambler-Johnston halls. The second shooting occurred while the first one was being investigated. It is not clear yet why the campus was not evacuated following the first shooting.
The gunman acted alone is dead, Virginia Tech Police Chief Wendell Flinchum said.
Students were seen jumping fourth-floor window as the shooting incurred to escape being the next victim.
President George Bush, just moments ago, said, “Our nation is shocked and saddened by the news of the shootings at Virginia Tech today.”Vigils are planned at various events for tonights.
