Oliver Stone Directing “W” Is One Thing – Ferrel Doing Bush On Broadway Is Another
NEW YORK(RUSHPRNEWS)10/17/08–Will Ferrell will make his Broadway debut in January in the new solo comedy “You’re Welcome America. A Final Night With George W Bush.”, reported Wild Sound Filmaking.
Production will be helmed by Adam McKay, the writer-director of Ferrell pics “Step Brothers,” “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” and “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.”
Plot of the show remains sketchy, but the title and timing suggest a Bush caricature and plenty of topical humor.
Production begins previews Inauguration Day, Jan. 20, ahead of a Feb. 1 opening at the Cort Theater. Limited engagement is skedded to shutter March 15.
Writing credits have not yet been confirmed, although it seems likely Ferrell and McKay will collaborate on the script, since the duo co-wrote the screenplays for all three of their prior pic outings.
“You’re Welcome America” is produced by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel and Steve Traxler, the triumvirate that also produced “August: Osage County” and the soon-to-open revival of “Speed-the-Plow.” Executive producers are Ferrell and McKay’s Gary Sanchez Prods. and Jessica Elbaum.
