m62 visualcommunications, the global leader in presentation effectiveness, has reviewed the i-Clickr application for iPhone, which replicates the functionality of traditional presentation clickers, while also allowing additional control over the PowerPoint slides in a presentation.
The application is reviewed by m62 experts, who have tried and tested many different presentation clickers (or remotes). m62 have a set of standard requirements that they recommend as a minimum. These include allowing the presenter to: maintain a reasonable distance from the laptop; advance forward or back through slides; and blank the screen. The iPhone using i-Clickr was tested against these, and then considered in terms of the extra functions it offers.
i-Clickr offers many more functions than standard presentation clickers, such as the option of different screen views, including speaker notes; the ability to jump to any slide; and the ability to annotate PowerPoint slides directly from the iPhone. Functions are easily managed via the one-touch menu, using clicks or finger-swipes.
The review finds that, although the i-Clickr application offers users a much wider range of functions, there can be connectivity difficulties when using the software in ad-hoc mode. These are particularly apparent if i-Clickr is used with a foreign wireless network, for example when visiting a client for a sales or business presentation.
Nicholas Oulton, Founder of m62, commented: “The importance of having a fully-functional presentation clicker is essential when delivering a presentation, to ensure that everything runs smoothly. Ideally, the presentation should be seamless, and there are certain things that every clicker should be able to do. The iPhone adds several extra functions, which could prove very useful. However, the pros of any new technology have to be weighed against the cons, and in this case, the cons are risks around not being able to connect clicker and laptop in all situations.
“The i-Clickr application has great potential, but the issues with connection can be tough to handle. A great piece of technology, but it may require someone with sound IT knowledge to handle. In any case, this has the potential to become a fantastic application.
