Schmid Telecom AG has successfully completed the Site Acceptance Test at Birmingham Airport for the refresh of the main Voice Communication System. The Schmid Telecom VCS is now running on the latest ED-137B compliant Software-Release. As part of the system refresh a completely new HMI was deployed, which was designed together with the Air Traffic Controllers at Birmingham Airport Air Traffic Limited. The new HMI was tailored exactly towards the needs of today`s ATCO`s including a sophisticated Role Concept. It underpins once more the wide range of flexibility and migration capability of the Schmid Telecom VCS solution.
Paul Strick, Manager CNS at Birmingham Airport Air Traffic Limited, commented: “As part of our continuous improvement, Birmingham Airport Air Traffic Limited has reviewed the VCS and how we could optimise the system to ensure that we can offer both a safe and efficient service. With Birmingham Airport’s continuous growth in traffic numbers, as the ANSP we need to ensure that we continue to provide the best service to all of our stakeholders. Schmid Telecom has played a key role with this upgrade and has provided us a very stable and efficient platform to build on in the future”.
