Solar Power Grants: The Year 2011 Is The Perfect Time To Take Advantage Of Renewable Energy Installations

This year, homeowners, businesses and communities will have a serious opportunity to help the environment and save money. That’s why Solar Power Grants, the UK’s leading online resource for homeowners regarding all renewable energy grant issues, is advising people to research the benefits of solar power and other renewable technologies for themselves.

As many people are aware, the Government’s Feed-In Tariff (FIT) is already up and running. The scheme allows anyone to receive payments for generating their own renewable electricity as well as lowering energy bills. And by exporting any unused electricity to the power grid it’s also possible to receive extra cash.

Anyone who is considering the FIT and other green technologies will be particularly interested to learn about the upcoming Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).

The launch of the RHI is anticipated for June 2011 and will offer a wider scope of renewable technologies to benefit from. The scheme will operate much in the same way as the FIT and will help accomplish similar ambitions by the Government to increase the level of heat generation in the UK from renewable sources and reduce the nation’s carbon emissions.  But unlike the FIT, which only applies to green electricity generation, the RHI is potentially available to anyone who installs one of six accepted technologies.

The qualifying technologies are:

  • Air, water and ground-source heat pumps
  • Solar thermal
  • Biomass boilers
  • Renewable combined heat and power
  • Use of biogas and bioliquids
  • Injection or biomethane into the natural gas grid

As part of the RHI anyone who adopts an eligible technology will be able to benefit in three ways.

Firstly, because you will not be reliant on gas or oil, you will save money. Secondly, you will receive a payment for the heat and hot water you generate. This is dependent on the amounts you generate, but the payout is up to 18p/kWhr. Thirdly, you’ll be reducing your carbon footprint.

David Holmes, Founder of Solar Power Grants, said: “The year 2011 really is the perfect time for any property owners to start seriously considering a renewable energy installation. To see the benefits for yourself all you need to do is look at the Solar Power Grants website.”

He added: “The RHI and the FIT are both about saving money and contributing to a greener environment. This is a great opportunity for the everyday individual to take control of their energy bills and their carbon footprint.”
